Course Description
If you are interested in helping children and youth who require extra support to achieve their full potential, assist teachers in early childhood settings or elementary and secondary schools, or help children and youth in the community, the Education Assistant program is designed for you. With a focus on the individual’s social and educational needs in an inclusive environment, students are prepared to change people’s lives through caring, education, and promotion of healthful, purposeful lives. Through theory and practice, case studies, specialized training, and work experience practice, graduates are well-prepared and equipped to enter the field of special education.
DURATION
35 weeks or 865 hours
MODULES
On-going practice with classmates using sign language to communicate. Course-specific topics to understand and use individualized education plans. Lesson planning and delivery of mini-lessons and other activities in teaching English. Observation assignments that require collecting data and writing draft reports on the client being observed and reinforced by research. Research current topics and trends in special education to present to their colleagues. Collaborations with classmates to organize events for the community, such as information sessions for public awareness and education, activities with special needs groups in the community, and poster sessions or seminars for other groups of students in the campus.
